Why Learning About Entrepreneurship and Business Creation
Matters to Young People NOW
Entrepreneurs are the engines of America's economy, accounting for the vast majority of new job creation and the development of new innovations. Entrepreneurs can develop and thrive anywhere. Some people just have it! But, for the rest of us, training, support and education help.
Individuals who receive entrepreneurship training, at all ages, are more likely to start a business, and, most importantly, to sustain and grow a business. These companies are the cornerstone of future economic growth, job creation and wealth generation.
"From the earliest days of our founding, America has been the story of ordinary people who dare to dream. We are a nation that says, "I may not have a lot of money but I have this great idea for a new company."
President Barack Obama, 2011
- Gallup studies show 7 out of 10 high school students want to start their own companies
- According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, more than 50% of all new jobs and the nation's innovation comes from small businesses. New firms add an average of 3 million jobs in their first year, while older companies lose 1 million jobs annually

In our innovation economy, young people will most likely work for an entrepreneur or be one.
